Have you ever considered yourself lucky? Well I’ll tell you how lucky you are to be having all those things in your life ready and at reach. I usually don’t do posts like this but I will just share a story about an experience with what we call street children.
Usually, I ignore them whenever I saw them. I don’t give any alms, I don’t give anything. It always feels as if I need the money more than they do. What I always keep in mind is that I will not ever let my child suffer that kind of situation. But because of this experience, I was moved and thought the other way around.
I saw a little boy about 9-10 years old, carrying a baby (might be his younger sibling) and they rode a jeepney going to Divisoria. Aside from the baby, he’s carrying those red paper envelopes and a little purse which contains all the coins he have collected.
He sang. In all fairness, his voice is so beautiful that I could request another song. He sang “Sana Ngayong Pasko” which I really don’t know why I was moved. I don’t give coins to these street children but the kid, while he was singing, he’s making the baby sleep and I can see how he takes care of the little angel.
Do you ever realize how lucky you are to be having a home, having someone to take care of you, having all those gadgets and unnecessary things while these kids don’t? You always complain how boring your life is, how it hurts so much to have your boyfriend break up with you. But you know what hurts more?
Having these kids suffer this kind of life when they can be like you studying, sitting at school, and eating three meals a day. Yet, they do not complain. They walk bare feet under the scorching heat of the sun, wearing those dirty and baggy shirts hoping that one day, they will experience a different life unlike this.
Now do you still consider yourself unlucky? Think again.
